Unicorn Country

I'd love to live in Unicorn Country
Where nobody ever forgets to be free,
Where destitute dragons make love in the moonlight
Under the shade of a marmalade tree.

I'm looking for the door to forever
Somewhere across a dark-hearted sea:
A contrary land I've always imagined
Where nothing is what it's intended to be.

I'd love to live in calliope canyons,
Gamboling gaily through sea serpent shoals,
Where the tune and the tide are my only companions
And islands rise out of the sea like souls.

I'm looking for a circle of horses
Like standing stones on a moor at dawn ~
The sun strikes one, and then they are running ~
The carousel turns, and then they are gone!

I'd love to live in Unicorn Country
Where wonder is all that the gods require,
To wear out my heart on a field of thunder
And look for my luck in a dragon's fire.

Once I saw life through a magical mirror;
I was a child, for the world had wings;
The sky was so wide, and the mountains nearer
When unicorns ruled in preference to kings.

I'd love to live in Unicorn Country
Where nobody ever forgets to be free,
Where destitute dragons make love in the moonlight
Under the shade of a marmalade tree.
