Earth Dreams

In an age of change and chaos
While our Earth is slumbering
While the armies of denial
Drill the death of everything

Make a painting to the sunset
Draw a breath still clean and free
Dance a forest one last solstice
Sing the seas an elegy.

As the rain falls down like acid
As the city falls in ruin
Speak betrayal to our children
Say that it was not our doing.

Nothing lovely lasts forever ~
Nothing bitter as our greed ~
Nothing broken as the homeless
People, polar bears, and dreams.

----

We cannot stop the changing climate
Fueled by poisons in the air
Nor the course of Earth's destruction
That our children have to bear.

Still we seek to heal our planet
Save all creatures large and small
By our acts of love and courage
We awaken to Earth's call.

In our work, in all our living
Dream new ways both safe and sound
Slow the path of sure disaster
Keep the carbon underground!
